Finding Internet Service Providers in my Area

April 19th, 2010

I was at a loss as to the best way to go about locating internet service providers in my area.  I tried calling the 800 numbers that were advertised by broadband companies on television, but I always ended up wasting my time because I would find out that they did not service my neighborhood.  That’s when someone told me about a website that compared the top internet service providers and had links to check for availability at my address.  I began by finding the companies that had my state as being listed in their network.  I was pleasantly surprised that two of the top providers, AT&T and Verizon, both listed my state.  Then I clicked on the “check availability” link next to the ISP’s name and entered in some simple information like my street address and zip code.  Within just a few minutes, I had a list of viable companies that I could compare side by side for the best deal for me.

Available Internet Providers in my Area

A great online resource is available to help me identify the available internet providers in my area.  I was first instructed to gain a basic understanding of what the various speed levels will allow me to do with my internet connection.  Once I had a handle on what speed was right for my lifestyle and internet usage, I went to a special offers page that highlighted the top internet providers nationwide.  I could see the various deals and compare them side by side.  I also was able to click on links directly to these providers to check on availability in my area.  Once I narrowed down my list to available broadband providers, I was able to easily choose the right package for me.

Ditching Dialup in Favor of High Speed Internet Providers in my Area

March 23rd, 2010

Change is never easy, and sometimes just going through the motions of making a major decision can seem daunting.  Entering into a contractual obligation with high speed internet providers in my area was something I honestly felt some apprehension about.  First I had to make sense out of all the jargon.  I didn’t even know what broadband meant (I have since learned it simply means how much capacity a connection has; in other words, how much information can be downloaded at once).  Very closely related to the idea of bandwidth is speed of the internet connection.  Dialup is slowest; DSL and cable have comparable speeds, although cable can generally be a bit faster (and also a bit pricier in general).  Fiber optics is considered the king of DSL delivery because of the superiority of the infrastructure.  Finding the answers to this information and more was easy with the right resources.  Check out the step by step information guide to help you with this decision.

Offers Available from Internet Providers in My Area

March 19th, 2010

I am in the market for an upgrade in my broadband connection, and I wanted to find out what offers are available from internet providers in my area.  I knew I wanted more speed, but I wasn’t sure exactly what I wanted.  My kids are entering their teenage years, and I knew things like video streaming, online games and social networking would become more prominent in my home.  I also wanted to compare the various technologies to see what made sense for my situation.  I found a resource that helped me to identify the correct speed, and showed me the various internet providers and what they had to offer.  I was very intrigued by U-verse, because it’s intelligent technology allowed my internet connection, television and home phone connections to communicate and interact seamlessly.  The fiber optics DSL technology also appealed to me because there was potential for speed upgrades in the future.

Checking Availability of High Speed Internet Providers in my Area

March 15th, 2010

It’s easy to find out who the high speed internet providers in my area are with the right tools handy.  For example, I live in Illinois, and I found this website that had promotions available for top providers like AT&T and Verizon.  I found out that both these ISP’s provide service to Illinois.  The next step was to find out which one of them provided service to my neighborhood.  Through a quick and easy interface I typed in my street address and zip code, and I found out that AT&T services my area.  I was able to compare it to the cable company that also provides broadband service to my area, and I decided to go with AT&T because of the price and the idea of not having to share bandwidth with my neighborhood.  AT&T is running some great promotions right now, and I got a deal that included a gift card and free modem.

Google Ultra High Speed Internet Service

March 11th, 2010

Being a native Chicagoan, I read with interest recently that a prominent Chicago suburb, Naperville, is throwing their hat into the proposed pool of test communities for Google’s new broadband network.  If you have been following broadband technology news, you know that Verizon FiOS made waves when it introduced it’s all fiber-optics-to-the-door network which opened up unprecedented speeds upwards of 50 Mbps, plus flexible technology where your broadband connection could interact with your television so that you could enjoy social networking, online games, video streaming, and more on your television screen.  Google announced last month that it is experimenting with the same type of fiber-to-the-home connection that allegedly is 100 times faster than the speeds most of us currently enjoy.  Naperville boasts the underground conduits that would make it easier to handle fiber optics infrastructure.

Why Pay More — Internet Service Providers Offer Great Deals

March 8th, 2010

Finding reputable internet service providers is easier than you think if you have the right tools and resources at your fingertips.  One of the first orders of business is to find out which ISPs service your area — this is very easy with an address lookup.  The main DSL providers like AT&T, Verizon, and Qwest likely cover your state.  They also are offering some terrific deals including cash back, free modems, bundled savings and more.  Perhaps you are interested in cable internet?  There is information regarding cable providers as well.  Once you identify a few providers to choose from, your next step is to determine which speed suits your internet usage needs.  There are several speeds and packages available, and it’s always nice to compare providers side by side to see how their offers stack up against their competition.

Suggestions for Researching Internet Providers in Your Area

February 22nd, 2010

If the time has come to switch to high speed broadband, you may be wondering how to find out who the internet providers in your area are. We have some suggestions that may help, and have found a great website that takes you through a systematic process which leaves no stone unturned. There are a lot of things to assess, including basic education and definitions of technological terms, determination of speed requirements, choosing a mode of delivery, making sense of all of the deals and packages that are available, and finding out which internet providers actually service your area.

There are some things that you may want to take into consideration. Talk to some of your neighbors to see how happy they are with their high speed internet. Ideally you would find a few neighbors who have both cable internet and DSL to see what the pros and cons are of the existing infrastructure in your neighborhood. In some areas, cable is well represented and DSL is not; in other cases, the opposite is true. Since both modes of delivery are considered great options for high speed internet, this one particular piece of advice might make all the difference in the world in you choosing the best provider.
